About Floyd
Floyd Xiao
Sports Mental & Performance Coach
Coaching is my passion. I have been studying sports mental psychology for over a decade, because this is what I love to do.
My goal is to help you be the best of you — to enjoy what you do, and at the same time get to the top level and become a champion.
I am based in Canada and coach athletes online, worldwide — in English and Mandarin, whichever you think in. Before coaching, I spent four years as a teacher in Toronto, working closely with students and families every day. Teaching taught me how people actually learn, change, and grow under pressure — and that is the heart of coaching.
Over a Decade of Study
Learning from the best minds in sport
For more than ten years, I have studied sports psychology and the mental approaches of elite competitors — how the very best prepare, think, and stay composed when everything is on the line.
Among the athletes whose mental games I have studied closely are Floyd Mayweather, Terence Crawford, Jon Jones, Eileen Gu, and Kobe Bryant. To be clear: these are athletes I have studied, not athletes I have coached, and nothing here implies an endorsement or a professional relationship. What I took from them is what any serious student can take — how preparation builds confidence, how composure is trained, and how the best competitors trust themselves when it matters most.
My own influences are confidence, simplicity, and enjoyment. Athletes perform best when the work is clear, the mind is calm, and they genuinely want to be out there.
My Roots
Wu Wei, and where it comes from
A distinctive part of my philosophy is Wu Wei (’effortless action’), from my Chinese cultural background. It means developing your skills through disciplined preparation — work done because you love it — then trusting those skills in competition instead of interfering with your own performance through excessive conscious control.
It is practical, not mystical: love the work, prepare honestly, and then compete with freedom, presence, and trust.
